====== PATH and URL ======

One of the common problems is misunderstanding (or carelessness?) the difference between URL and Path.

[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL|URL]] - is something like http://domain.com/blabla/, i.e. the location of the file on the internet.

[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_(computing)|PATH]] - is the location of the file on disk.

Let's consider a simple example:
on the server disk the directory with your domains is usually located something like /home/user/domain.com/. Let's say the file 1.html is also there. The path to it is /home/user/domain.com/1.html
The URL to the same file is http://domain.com/1.html



**Relative vs. absolute paths:**
- A relative path is relative to the current location and can change
- An absolute path starts with `/` (file system root) and never changes. Example: `/home/user/domain.com/1.html`

**In rotation settings:**
You specify two parameters for thumbnail storage: URL to data and PATH to data.

For example, instead of storing thumbs in `/scj/thumbs` (http://domain/scj/thumbs/1/2.jpg), you want them in `/thumbs` (http://domain/thumbs/1/2.jpg):

- **PATH to save thumbs**: `/home/user/domain.com/thumbs/`
- **URL**: `http://domain.com/thumbs` or just `/thumbs`
