I'm having a trouble importing galleries. Example is a gallery with group "Lesbians" doesn't import because the group name is different from "Lesbian" which is one of the groups already existing on my site. Other examples are "Amateurs" and "Amateur", etc.

I choose "Tag based" grouping option when importing, Should I just switch to "Filter keywords (beta)" and edit categories to add synonyms in "Filter Keywords" section? ie: Lesbians|Lesbian|Lesbo

Yes.
